Chet Hanks Details Losing 27 Pounds in 3 Days at "Rock Bottom" Before Sobriety Journey

Chet Hanks is opening up about a moment that kickstarted his sobriety journey.
On the second anniversary of becoming sober, the Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets star—who is son to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson—got candid on his journey, sharing details of the moment in his life that led him to taking the first step.
“This is my sobriety anniversary,” Chet said on an Aug. 14 episode of the MTV show, showing off his progress on a tracking app. “Two years ago today, I was coming off a three-day coke binge where I didn’t eat, sleep or barely drink any water for three days straight.”
The binge took place during a trip to Las Vegas, a moment that the 34-year-old described was a turning point.
“I lost 27 lbs in three days, so my disease is gnarly,” he added. “It’s not pretty. I went straight from Vegas, checked myself into rehab—again.”
And Chet—who detailed the story to castmates including Macy Gray and Tyler Posey—reflected on just how far he has come.
“Here I am, 31 years old, broke, strung out, sucked up, just skinny, just at rock bottom,” he noted of the Vegas trip. “I just knew, man, if I don’t change my life in a drastic way, either I’m not even going to be around or something bad, so bad, is going to happen that my life might as well be over—cause that’s where I was headed.”
Despite the dark place, Chet was able to work through it, and emphasized he—in his own words—is now having the “time of his f--king life.”
“Life is good,” he said. “God is great. That’s all I gotta say.”
After opening up on his personal milestone, Chet shared he felt it was a great way for him to mark the occasion with his castmates.
“It felt good,” he explained in a later confessional. “I feel like everyone got to know me better. We’re really like a family. They were all there to celebrate and support me being sober which really touches me.”
